The Dark One

It is official. The Peruvian election (second round) will take place the 28th of May between Ollanta Humala and Alan Garcia.

With 98.46% of votes counted, Humala received 30.70% of votes followed by GarcĂa who received 24.33%. Flores came in third with 23.67% of votes (a difference of 80,002 votes).

There is doubt the APRA and the Unidad Nacional political parties will create an alliance to contend against Ollanta Humala - who in my opinion will be the next president of Peru.

Intrestingly enough the Economist recently published a story referencing the idea of the caudillo. It states Humala "is a typical product of Peru's provincial middle class: he is mestizo (of mixed race), speaks no Indian language and went to a private school. His nationalism is that of the populist military caudillo".
